In the EU, automatic renewal of a digital subscription requires clear and timely notice before renewal and an easy way to cancel (Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights, and its amendments under the Digital Services & Omnibus Directive). Domestika’s practice of silently charging for a full year without a clear reminder email or obvious opt-out is, in my view, in direct violation of these consumer protection rules. By continuing this practice despite widespread complaints, they are blatantly ignoring EU consumer law.
